Read the following post, "Timing is everything: Global communications," for strategies for effectively communicating across teams. Pay careful attention to the different timing factors of effective communication in a distance workplace.

For distance leaders, having strong connections with other leaders and team members means that you can influence organizational directions, and perhaps have control of organizational achievements. Being connected to your colleagues can also provide career safety and build a loyal tribe of supporters and followers.

Connecting with colleagues takes on many forms and purposes, but staying connected is a responsibility that a leader must own.

Do your best to pursue richer, more personal interactions. Video calls, periodic check-ins, collaborative discussions, and coaching discussions are great starting points.

Be as high-touch as possible. Start with video if possible, but use the most effective communication possible to encourage a personal connection.
